About The Language House School of English
Q: When was The Language House School of English established?
A: In 1996 in the British Isles. The Language House has been providing English as a Foreign Language training to international students for over 10 years.

Q: How do I know that The Language House is a serious language school?
The Language House is recognized by the Department of Education and Science as an English Language School for the teaching of English as a Foreign Language and is a member of Marketing English in Ireland (MEI-RELSA) and Dublin Tourism. Teachers and classes are regularly evaluated to ensure our high standards are maintained.

Q: What are the main advantages of The Language House?

A: The School is conveniently located in Dublin city centre, close to public transportation, cultural attractions and sports facilities. As we are small, we can give much more attention to each student in the classroom and outside the classroom than is likely in larger institutions. Our excellent teachers are fully qualified and experienced and are dedicated to making your progress in the language as rapid and thorough as possible.

About Our Students
Q: How old are your students?
A: They must be 17 years or over for our regular English courses (exceptions on a case to case basis). The average age of our students is approx. 24 years but we have had students ranging from 17 to 72 years. We also offer a Summer Programme for students from 14 years old in July and August.

Q: What is the percentage of students from each country?

A: We may have over 17 different countries represented at any given time. Here is the average percentage for our top 6 countries. These percentages vary at different times of the year.
Spain - 25% Italy - 20% Slovakia - 10% France - 7% Germany 7 % Japan - 7%

About levels, number of students per class, length of study and start dates
Q: How many students per class?
A: We have an average of 6-8 students with a maximum of 12 per class from September to June and an average of 12 students with a maximum of 14 per class in July & August.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum length of study?
A: Students can take courses from 1 week. There is no upper limit.

Q: How long does it take to learn English?
A: It depends on the initial level but most full-time students require an average of two month to complete each level.

Q: When can I start?
A: We have an open enrolment policy so students can start every Monday.

About Our Courses
Q: What are your most popular programmes?
A: Most of our students take our Intensive Course - Speaking IS26. Our General English G20 couse is also very popular with students who study long term, students who would like to have some free time or to work in their spare time.

Q: Can students change programmes after they start?
A: Students can upgrade within the first week of beginning classes (dependent on individual cases and seat availability). Students who wish to change classes must request these changes through our Reception and pay the appropriate balance due. There is no refund made for course downgrades.

About Accommodation
Q: Where can students live while studying at The Language House?
A: The most popular choice is with a Host Family. Staying with an Irish family provides additional opportunities for students to practice English while learning about Irish culture. We also arrange University Residence and budget self-catering accommodation all year round.

Q: How do you choose the Host Families?
A: We have a large database of families who have been selected and visited by our Host Family Co-ordinator. Families are constantly being evaluated through satisfaction questionnaires completed by students and through inspections by our staff.

Q: What is included in Host Family accommodation?
A: For Host Family accommodation from September to June, students have a private furnished bedroom and in the months of July & August, students have shared room (single also available). Students will have two meals daily and three meals at weekends. Families are located within 20-45 minutes of the School by bus or DART and we never place students of the same nationality/same first language in the same family unless otherwise requested. Bed linen and towels are provided by the Host Family.

Q: Can students change families if they do not like their Host Family?
A: Students should meet with our Host Family Co-ordinator immediately if they have concerns about their Host Family. The Host Family Co-ordinator will decide if a change is necessary based on the problems encountered.

Q: Can students leave the Host Family and move to an apartment if they want?
A: Yes, students can move out of their Host Family when they want to, providing that they give 4 weeks' notice or pay the equivalent.
