Becoming a Host Family
What is a 'host family'?
Most students who come to study English at The Language House stay with carefully selected local
'Host Families'. The experience for both can be enriching and memorable.
Students benefit from living with native Irish people in a supportive home
environment, practising English and learning about everyday life in Ireland. You and your household will gain friends from all
over the world, find out about other cultures and cuisines.
Types of stay
• Junior groups age 14-18 (1-2 weeks)
• English Language Programmes (Adults) for groups & individuals (2 weeks to 6 months depending on student)
Who can host?
• A couple with children
• A couple without children
• Singles and Single Parents
• Empty Nesters
What is expected from the host family?
• A warm, welcoming and safe environment
• Welcoming and hospitable
• A clean bedroom with a single bed per student and adequate furniture
together with access to communal areas of the house and to allow adequate
daily access to the bathroom
• Sensitivity to the student’s need to improve his/her English and to
encourage, where possible, communication between the student and the host
family
• To provide a door key to adult students
• To provide one laundry service per week
• To provide Beakfast and dinner weekday and 3 meals at weekends
• To be located in Dublin, less than 60 minutes from The Langauge House (near Baggot bridge) by bus, LUAS or DART.
